Icebreaker

Objective of the icebreaker activity: elicit practitioners pre-existing knowledge about the terms policy and governance; activate awareness where policy and governance in the management of green elements in VET training institutions show; initiate understanding on the importance of having policies and governance in the management of green elements in VET training institutions.

Needed Material: Flip chart, cards, board for gathering cards, pens.

Activity 1:

Divide your class in smaller groups. Ideally, work in groups of 3-4 participants.

Give two tasks:

A) Ask the groups what they believe the term “green policy” means;

B) Ask the groups what they believe the term “governance” in a VET institution means. Let the participants of each group gather their ideas on a flip chart. Let the groups decide on one speaker per group to present the results. Discuss the groups’ findings with the entire class.

Time frame: 10 min single group work + 15 min discussion with the entire group. Give more time depending on how may groups participate.

Activity 2:

Divide your class in smaller groups. Ideally, work in groups of 3-4 participants.

Give two tasks:

A) Ask the groups where they notice examples of the green policy of their institution;

B) Ask the groups where they believe to notice the impact of governance in the management of a green strategy in their VET institution. Hand out 2 cards per question. Cards for question A should have a different colour than for question B. Let the participants of each group gather their ideas on cards and let them discuss their findings in their groups. Ask all participants to pin their cards on a board. Look together at the results. Tell participants that after the training they will be able to verify the completeness and correctness of their findings.

Time frame: 10 min single group work + 5 min wrap up with the entire group. Give more time depending on how may groups participate.
