Icebreaker

Green Skill Hunt

Objective: To introduce participants to the concept of green skills and initiate discussions on their relevance in the future workforce within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) context.

Instructions:

  1. Provide an overview of the activity by introducing it as the "Green Skill Hunt”.
  2. Prepare a list of common workplace skills and attributes related to environmental sustainability and green practices. These could include skills like energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable resource management, eco-friendly communication, etc.
  3. Hand out the list of green skills to each participant as they enter the session.
  4. Ask participants to pair up (if there is no even number of participants, one group can work with 3 people).
  5. In their pairs, participants should take turns discussing their understanding of each listed green skill and how they envision its importance in the future workforce. They can share personal experiences, insights, or thoughts.
  6. After the discussion, each pair should introduce their partner and highlight the most interesting or unique perspective shared during their conversation.
  7. Bring the activity to a close by inviting a few pairs to share their observations with the entire group. Encourage participants to discuss common themes, differing viewpoints, and the overall significance of green skills in shaping the future workforce.

This icebreaker activity aims to create an engaging environment for participants to think critically about green skills, fostering a sense of curiosity and collaboration while laying the foundation for deeper discussions about the future of the workforce within the context of VET institutions.
