Practical Actions

1. Develop accurate and accessible information on sustainability

The commercial branch of your VET-Institution is to deal with communication strategies in companies as part of their curriculum. In order to make the topic tangible for your students, you would like to consider with your students how the sustainable actions of your school can become more visible internally and externally.

Questions:

  1. Discuss with your students which information on the sustainability actions in the current school year is interesting and should be disseminated within the school. Which information is more interesting for the public and should be communicated there?
  2. Discuss with your students which communication channels are appropriate (homepage, intranet, newsletter, posters, local newspaper, etc.).
  3. Discuss with your students what 'accessible and accurate information' means when communicating the school's sustainability actions.
  4. Prepare an accessible and accurate text for the homepage or intranet with your students!

2. Making language simpler and easier

The language of the following text is complicated.

"Whoever, by force against a person or by using threats of present danger to life or limb, takes away from another a movable thing belonging to another with the intention of unlawfully appropriating the thing to himself or to a third party, shall be punished [...]" (§ 249, German Criminal Code).

Questions:

  1. Discuss with your students which elements make the text difficult to understand.
  2. Discuss with your students what could help to make the text more accessible.
  3. Ask your students to write a new text.

3. Designing accessibility

The social branch of your VET-Institution is supposed to deal with communication strategies in social institutions as part of the didactic curriculum. In order to make the topic tangible for your students, you would like to consider with them how to improve the accessibility of information in your school.

Questions:

  1. Discuss with your students what the access to information currently looks like at your VET-Institution. For example, take a look at the school's homepage. What is already accessible?
  2. Discuss with your students which communication channels (homepage, intranet, newsletter, posters, etc.) are more suited for making information accessible and how accessibility could be implemented in these.
  3. Together with your students, prepare a text for the homepage or the intranet on the topic "Sustainability strategies of our school". The text should accessible!
